syndication-westchester-county-journal-news-16

Danbury, Conn. (77WABC) – A 14-year-old Danbury boy turned himself into police Monday for allegedly causing a mall shooting that left a 15-year-old girl injured.

The shooting on Wednesday August 11 happened at the Danbury Fair Mall, where the girl was hit in the upper chest. The mall was then placed under lockdown by the Danbury Police Department to remove employees and patrons, but police determined the shooter had already fled the mall.

Police added that the handgun used in the incident was recovered. After a Superior Court Judge granted a warrant for the 14-year-old’s arrest, the shooter — accompanied by his parents and attorney — turned himself in to police where he was transported to the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center.

The boy is now facing charges of assault in the 1st degree, reckless endangerment in the 1st degree, unlawful discharge of firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, risk of injury to a minor, and breach of peace. The 15-year-old girl is recovering from her injuries which are reported to be non-life-threatening.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Paul Carroccio at 203-797-2169 or p.carroccio@danbury-ct.gov, or the anonymous TIPS Line at 203-790-8477.
