New York, NY (77WABC)- Say goodbye to Andrew Cuomo! With his resignation announcement today, also came the announcement that Lt. Gov Kathy Hochul would step in and fill the shoes of NYS Governor in 14 days. Many are wondering…who is Kathy Hochul?
Hailing from Buffalo NY, Hochul attended law school after graduating from Syracuse and began working at a law firm in DC post graduation. She then worked as legal counsel and a legislative assistant to U.S. Representative John LaFalce and U.S. Senator Daniel Moynihan, and for the New York State Assembly, before seeking elected office.
Hochul was also a member of the House from 2011 to 2013 representing New York’s 26th District. She served on the House Armed Services and the House Homeland Security committees.
Hochul was then elected on a ticket with Cuomo in 2014, becoming the state’s 77th lieutenant governor. She serves as president of the New York State Senate and chairs the Regional Economic Development Councils. It’s safe to say, the Lt. Governor is extremely busy!
Hochul is married to William J. Hochul Jr., a former United States attorney, and they have 2 children together. Kathy Hochul will serve as the first female Governor of New York.
“I agree with Governor Cuomo’s decision to step down,’’ Ms. Hochul said in a recent statement. “It is the right thing to do and in the best interest of New Yorkers. As someone who has served at all levels of government and is next in the line of succession, I am prepared to lead as New York State’s 57th governor.”
We can't have a full economic recovery without boosting #childcare.
Proud to announce $35M in state funding to strengthen child care programs across the state.
