FIRE ISLAND, New York -Shark sightings have temporarily shuttered a beach on Fire Island. Davis Park Beach is closed until further notice.
The report of a shark sighting is the furthest point east that a shark has been spotted off the Long Island Coast this summer season.
Last week, beaches off the Town of Hempstead were closed following shark sightings. A life guard was potentially bitten.
Experts believe the sharks are coming towards the shoreline to feed on baitfish.
