A Suspect At Large After Conning His Way Into 8 Residences Posing As a Repairman, Construction Worker or NYCHA Employee

New York, NY (77WABC)- Police say a suspect is at large after being connected to at least eight grand larceny incidents one in Manhattan and the rest in the Bronx. Police say the man poses as a repairman, construction worker , or claims to be a  NYCHA employee gaining entry to residences. Personal property and cash is stolen while the man is inside the residences.

The first incident happened in Manhattan,  on Wednesday May 26, 2021 at approximately 10:10 am inside of 2975 White Plains Road. The suspect knocked on the door of a 76-year-old female victim and stated he was there to repair her window. Once inside, the individual removed her wallet containing $400, NYS identification card as well as debit cards before fleeing in an unknown direction.

 On Monday June 21st, 2021 at approximately 9:20 am, inside of 2070 Clinton Avenue, the man knocked on the door of an 85-year-old male victim and stated he was there to do repair work inside his apartment. Once inside, the individual removed his wallet containing $400, NYS identification card, social security card and a debit card before fleeing.

Another senior citizen was targeted on  Wednesday June 23rd, 2021 at approximately 2:45 in the afternoon  inside of 1589 Unionport Road. The suspect knocked on the door of a 79-year-old female victim, stated he was a construction worker and asked to use the bathroom. Once inside, the individual removed a NYS driver license and a credit card from her wallet before leaving.

Police say the man posed as a window repairman  on Monday June 28, 2021 at approximately 10:15 am inside of 890 Trinity Avenue. The suspect knocked on the door of a 69-year-old female victim and stated he was there to repair her window. Once inside, the individual removed her purse containing bank cards, insurance cards and a MetroCard before leaving.

The man also posed as a window repair on  Wednesday June 30th, 2021 at approximately 09:40 am  inside of 3965 Sedgwick Avenue. Police say he  knocked on the door of an 89-year-old female victim and stated he was there to repair her window. Once inside, the individual removed a piece of custom jewelry as well as her wallet containing a credit card, $40 cash and a NYS identification card before fleeing in an unknown direction

In the next three incidents the man posed as a NYCHA employee. On Monday July 5, 2021 at Noon inside of 1295 Amsterdam Avenue, the suspect  knocked on the door of an 81-year-old female victim, stated he was a NYCHA Employee and needed to conduct a hot water inspection. Once inside, the individual removed a Samsung cellular phone as well as a checkbook before fleeing.

Police say he also posed as a NYCHA employee on Monday July 5, 2021 at approximately 12:45 pm  inside of 1295 Amsterdam Avenue. A suspect knocked on the door of a 71-year-old female victim, stated he was a NYCHA Employee and needed to conduct a hot water inspection. Once inside, the individual removed the victim’s handbag containing debit cards, credit cards and house keys before fleeing in an unknown direction.

In the latest incident reported to police, on Monday July 12th 2021 at approximately around 12:45 pm, inside of 190 Lincoln Avenue, a male suspect knocked on the door of a 67-year-old female victim, stated he was a NYCHA employee that needed to conduct a bathroom inspection. Once inside, the individual removed the victim’s handbag containing debit cards, credit cards and NYS identification before leaving.

None of the victims suffered injuries.

The suspect  is described as light-skinned-male approximately 35-42 years of age, approximately 5’8″ – 5’11” tall with a medium build. In all incidents the individual was wearing an orange construction vest.
