New York, NY (77WABC)- Major supermarket chain Gristedes has decided to take action against Ben & Jerry’s amid the ice cream company’s decision to stop selling their product in Israeli Occupied Territory stating it was ‘against their core values.’
Red Apple Media CEO and owner/CEO of the Gristedes grocery store chain, John A. Catsimatidis, announced Sunday, “I authorized our stores to cut Ben & Jerry’s space by 30% & not advertise until further notice.”
Catsimatidis also tweeted, “It’s a tragedy that Ben & Jerry’s has politicized ice cream. I like Haagen Dazs better, created by a South Bronx family who is pro-Israel. ” He was greeted with a flock of positive responses.
Attorney Alan Dershowitz recently stated that he would be suing the ice cream giants for anti-semitism. Dershowitz told the Bernie and Sid in the Morning show this past Friday, “I’m going from store to store and telling them to stop selling Ben & Jerry’s. We’re bringing forth a lawsuit. The problem is NOT that they’re protesting Israeli policies, it’s that they don’t protest any other policies. There is a word for that, and it’s called anti-semitism… when you pick ONLY the jews. I’m all in- going to go after those guys.”
