Bronx, NY (77WABC) — The NYPD is searching for a suspect who assaulted an 83-year-old man — after a dispute on a Bronx MTA bus in late May.

NYPD releasing video of the violent attack on Wednesday — as their search continues for the individual — hoping the public will recognize the man responsible.

Detectives say it all went down at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 31, as the victim was attempting to exit an MTA bus in the vicinity of Barnes Avenue and East Gun Hill Road in the Olinville section.

Investigators say the elderly victim and the man then got into a verbal argument. The dispute turned physical and the suspect poured liquid over the victim’s head and then proceeded to punch him multiple times in the face with a closed fist, according to police.

Video released by the NYPD shows the incident.   The perpetrator then exited the bus and ran westbound on East Gun Hill Road.  The victim sustained multiple facial fractures and was transported by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals / Jacobi.

The suspect is described as a dark-skinned male approximately 30 – 40 years of age, 5’11” tall, 180 lbs and was last seen wearing a denim jacket, blue jeans, a black hat and black sneakers.
This recent incident marks another surge in crimes against the elderly here in New York City.  On Wednesday, police released surveillance footage of two woman attacking a 69-year-old man inside of a Laundromat in Brooklyn back in June.

You can see the two woman approach the victim, punch him in the face and then struck him in the head with a vase. The victim sustained lacerations to the head and was transported by EMS to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the CrimeStoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM, on Twitter @NYPDTips.
