Queens, NY (77WABC)-Around 1 am this morning police from the 110th Precinct in Queens arrested a homeless man in connection with last weeks attack against a 34-year-old man during which anti gay statements were allegedly made and the man was slashed across his cheek.
The NYPD says 55 year -old Ramon Castro, who is undomiciled, is charged with assault, menacing and aggravated harassment as hate crimes in connection with the attack around 3:10 in the morning on Tuesday July 6th.
Police say Castro approached a 34-year-old man in front of 37-55 77 Street. A verbal argument erupted between the two men during which police say Castro allegedly made anti-gay statements to the man and slashed him across his left cheek.
According to the NYPD Hate Crimes Dashboard since the start of the year there have been four reported anti-gay hate crimes against men within NYC’s five boroughs.
The victim was transported by EMS to NYC Health & Hospitals/Elmhurst for treatment of his laceration, according to police. He was later released following treatment for his injuries.
Castro remains held awaiting arraignment.
