CONEY ISLAND, NY (77WABC) – Coney Island is back baby! Now, 77WABC needs your help picking out the song that best embodies the spirit of the iconic boardwalk, beach, amusement park, and home to the Brooklyn Cyclones.
On Wednesday, Margo will be throwing out the first pitch at the Brooklyn Cyclones game at the newly renamed Maimonides Park. To prep for the pitch, she’s been getting pointers from Mets pitcher Dwight Gooden and ’69 Mets players Art Shamsky and Ed Kranepool.
Things have already started to pick up on Coney Island now that almost all the Covid protocols have been removed. Fans can fill the stadium as they always have for Cyclones games.
During the 1870s and 1880s, high-end hotels adorned the scenic oceanfront and a railroad was extended to the resort. Recently the Catsimatidis family built the Ocean Drive Towers apartment, bringing luxury back to the Brooklyn beach area.
One look at the new and improved Coney Island and it can once again be described as “Heaven at the end of a subway ride.”
Here are the songs to choose from:
“It’s Coney Island!” by Vinnie Medugno
“Coney Island Beat” by Freddie Cannon
