NY: New York during the COVID-19 pandemic
New York City may truly be ready to become The City That Never Sleeps.
A new report from the Office of Nightlife is proposing a 24-hour entertainment areas that will allow people to continue partying all night long.
“In residential areas, nightlife and music venues can create noise and attract traffic that draws complaints from neighboring residents,” the report says. “Allowing 24-hour use in specified districts, if implemented properly, can help people to move at their own pace and reduce conflicts.”
“ONL recommends identifying potential areas with low residential density where a limited 24-hour program might be tested, allowing late-night activity to operate free from nuisance complaints or other conflicts,” the report added.
The recommendation comes as New York City has seen a surge in violent crime and late-night gatherings in public.
According to the NYPD, there were 718 shooting incidents and 826 shooting victims across the city. Hotspots like Washington Square Park have also had people causing disturbances to area residents with mayhem and bloodshed, with the police being unable to quench the madness.
