New Yorks Covid19 State of Emergency Lifts Today; No More Alcohol to Go Sales

New York, NY (77WABC)-In effect since March 7th, 2020 to fight COVID-19 New York State’s Covid 19 Emergency Disaster Declaration is going away. It expires today and NY Governor Andrew Cuomo announced in NYC Wednesday it will not be renewed.

Also, being eliminated with the ending of the state of emergency is to-go and delivery of alcoholic beverages which ends today:

“New York went from one of the worst infection rates to the lowest infection rate in the country, and it was all because of the efforts of New Yorkers who were smart, united and did what they needed to do throughout this entire pandemic,” Governor Cuomo said. “Now we’re starting to write a new chapter for a post-COVID New York–the state disaster emergency is ending and we can focus on reimaging, rebuilding, and renewing our state. This doesn’t mean COVID is gone, we still have to get more New Yorkers vaccinated, but we are getting back on track and starting to live life once again.”

Not all Covid19 guidelines are going away. The Governor reminded New Yorkers federal CDC guidance will remain in effect. That means masks for unvaccinated individuals, as well as all riders on public transit and in certain settings, such as health care, nursing homes, correctional facilities, and homeless shelters. State and local government health departments will still be able to ensure mask rules and other health precautions are followed in those settings.

Governor Cuomo credited progress in fighting the viral pandemic for the lifting of the state of emergency, including decline Covid19 rates, hospitalizations, and deaths. The Statewide 7-day average for positivity of Covid 19 is 0.36%, a record low for 26 consecutive days and has declined for 79 consecutive days.

The NY State Covid19 Vaccine Tracker can be viewed here.

According to the Johns Hopkins Covid19 Resource Center, there have been more than 2.1 million cases of Covid19 in NY State with more than 53,000 deaths since the start of the pandemic. More than 33,000 of those deaths occurred in NYC.
