There are 51 missing after the building collapse in Miami Beach, according to a TV channel
Miami, FL (77WABC) – A 12-story condo just outside of Miami partially collapsed early Thursday morning, leaving at least one person dead.
Dozens of residents were trapped in the rubble of the building, and rescuers are working to pull them out while searching for any other survivors. Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett said in a press conference that the death toll is likely to rise, as the building was full the time it collapsed.

“The building is literally pancaked,” Burkett said. “That is heartbreaking because it doesn’t mean to me that we are going to be as successful as we wanted to be in finding people alive.”
#MDFR crews found that the northeast corridor of the building had sustained a partial collapse. Approximately 55 apartment units were impacted by the collapse. #SurfsideBuildingCollapse pic.twitter.com/7XcP1PeDui
