Actress Lisa Banes Dies of Injuries in a Scooter Hit and Run

New York, NY (77WABC)-Police say actor Lisa Banes, of Los Angeles, CA has died of head injuries after being struck by a scooter whose driver ran a red light while she was attempting to cross Amsterdam Avenue on the upper west side of Manhattan.

Banes was struck and fell to the pavement on  Friday, June 4th around 6:30 in the evening. Police say Banes had the right of way when she was hit.

The 65-year-old Banes was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside where she died on Monday from severe trauma sustained in the accident.

Banes was reportedly on her way to Julliard School her alma mater when she was hit at the intersection of Amsterdam Avenue and West 64th St.

The scooter fled the location and remains at large. The accident is under investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad.

Banes’s career spanned Broadway, TV, and Film.

On Broadway, Banes most recently appeared in the 2010 revival of Present Laughter with Victor Gardner. She had a recurring role on TV as Ellen Collins on Royal Pains from 2010 to 2016. In 2014, Banes appeared in David Fincher’s Gone Girl as Marybeth Elliott, mother of Amy Elliott (Rosamund Pike).amonog her many credits.

Banes was recently married to her partner, Kathryn Kranhold, on June 4th, 2021.
