The Gun Violence Archive shows that there have been 272 mass shootings already this year, with this past weekend being responsible for a large number of events. According to data compiled by CNN and the GVA, at least nine people were killed and another 47 were injured in eight mass shootings in six states between Friday and Sunday.

On Friday in Washington state, police found two people dead after they responded to a shooting in White Center, just south of Seattle. Two other people were also hospitalized following the shooting.

According to the Winston-Salem Police Department in North Carolina, officers heard numerous shots fired just before 10 p.m. Friday night. They found four victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One of them was pronounced dead.

Five people were shot in Dallas, including a 4-year-old girl. Another shooting early Saturday in downtown Austin, Texas left one person dead and 14 injured.

A shooting early Saturday in Chicago sent 10 people to the hospital, where one woman died. Police said people were standing on a sidewalk in the city’s South Side when two men approached and opened fire.

Three people were shot to death outside a gas station on Saturday morning in Cleveland, Ohio. Six other people were shot and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. In Cincinnati, at least four people, including a 6-year-old and an 8-year-old, were wounded in a shooting Saturday, according to local police.

The shootings come as the fifth anniversary of the Pulse nightclub was remembered Saturday, where 50 people were shot and killed including the shooter as well as 58 more being injured. Data from the GVA shows that the total number of mass shootings is about 40% higher than at this point in 2020 at 194 and about 65% higher than at this point in 2019 at 164.
