New York (77WABC) – Yesterday, President Joe Biden announced that the United States will send 80 million doses of the covid vaccine around the world, according to AP News. The first 25 million will be sent out shortly, while the rest will be distributed through the end of June. There are a surplus of vaccine in the US and a shortage in other areas of the world. The United Nations COVAX program has only distributed 76 million vaccines worldwide.

According to CNN News, 75% of the vaccines will be shared to the COVAX program and 25% will be shared to the countries that need them most.
Jake Sullivan, the US National Security Advisor, has said that the US will decide where the vaccines will go.
The president has also stated that by the end of June, there will be enough vaccines in the US for all adults to be vaccinated. He also set a goal to have 70% of Americans vaccinated by July 4. He said, “As long as this pandemic is raging anywhere in the world, the American people will still be vulnerable. And the United States is committed to bringing the same urgency to international vaccination efforts that we have demonstrated at home.”
