New York (77WABC) – The first Friday in June is National Donut Day, which celebrates the tasty treat and honors the Salvation Army Lassies. The Salvation Army Lassies are the women who served home-cooked foods including “doughnuts” to soldiers on the frontlines during WWI in order to boost morale.
In commemoration of the day, many locations that sell donuts are offering deals and freebies to those looking to score the circular snack.

The eight decade-old donut shop is giving away any donut you want for free, as well as offering a dozen Original Glazed donuts for $1 if you purchase a dozen donuts. The company is also still honoring their free Original Glazed donut offer if you have a valid vaccination card.

The normally “ready-to-bake” pizza company has a mashup dubbed the DiGiornut and is giving it away through a Twitter sweepstakes. Fans can reply to DiGiorno’s tweet with #sweepstakes for a chance to score a half-dozen box.
Entenmann’s
While not exactly related to National Donut Day, through June 21 you can enter for a chance to win and give a year’s supply of donuts and other prizes to a father figure by nominating them for the “EntenMAN of the Year” Father’s Day Contest. The brand says the person can be “male or female; dad, coach, teacher or any inspiring person in their life.” Five nominees will be chosen for a chance to win the title, a year’s supply of Entenmann’s Donuts and an all-expenses-paid Daytona Race Trip package. The remaining finalists will win free Entenmann’s Donuts for a year.
