Copiague, NY (77WABC)-A 59-year-old Amityville woman is in critical condition at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip after being struck by a hit and run driver last night in Copiague.
Police say Maria Hernandez-Sanchez was trying to cross Sunrise Highway at the intersection of Bayview Avenue when she was struck around 10:15 pm. Police say a driver operating a grey SUV fled the scene after the woman was hit.
Officers from the Suffolk County Police Department’s First Squad detectives are investigating.
Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
