
EMA Expected To Approve Janssen Vaccine By March
In a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, out of the 101 million Americans who were fully vaccinated as of April 30, 10,262 experienced a breakthrough COVID-19 infection. This means they tested positive at least 14 days after their last vaccine dose.
According to the CDC’s morbidity and mortality weekly report published on May 25. 63% of the cases occurred in women, and just 27 percent of breakthrough infections were asymptomatic. Overall, 10% of people were hospitalized, and just 29% of those hospitalized were also had an asymptomatic. Just 2% of people died.

“Even though FDA-authorized vaccines are highly effective, breakthrough cases are expected, especially before population immunity reaches sufficient levels to further decrease transmission,” the CDC said in the report. “However, vaccine breakthrough infections occur in only a small fraction of all vaccinated persons and account for a small percentage of all COVID-19 cases.”
The CDC narrowed monitoring breakthrough COVID-19 cases on May 1, tracking only those that lead to hospitalization or death. As of Wednesday, over 131 million people have been fully vaccinated.
