Brooklyn, NY (77WABC)- Two people jumped from the second floor of an apartment on East 95th Street in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, to escape flames, leaving one fire victim dead and the other in serious condition.
Fire officials say the fire broke out just before 4:55 a.m. this morning.

Officials say an apartment door was left open allowing flames and smoke to spread more quickly.
Five other people, including a firefighter, suffered less serious injuries.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
