No Remote Learning Option for NYC Public Schools This Fall

 

NYC Schools Chancellor Meisha Ross Porter speaks about the fall reopening at Brooklyn’s New Bridges Elementary School.

New York, NY (77WABC)-It’s back to the classroom this fall for NYC’s 1.1 million public school students. When school doors open on Sept. 13th, remote learning will not be an option as it was during the Covid-19 viral pandemic.

NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio and NYC Public Schools Chancellor Meisha Ross Porter detailed the announcement during the Mayor’s briefing this morning from city hall. Porter spoke from the New Bridges Elementary School in Crown Heights Brooklyn.

“I’m very pleased to announce NYC Public Schools will fully reopen in September every single child will be back in the classroom,” said Mayor DeBlasio.

 

Chancellor Porter said the move comes as the 7 day Covid-19 positivity rate on a 7-day average in NYC’s public schools stands at .16%.

Chancellor Porter said masking and social distancing will be required, although school officials will continue to review CDC guidance related to Covid19. Porter added the special Covid-19 Situation Room, designed to handle any school-related situation that develops will remain open in the fall.

NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Long Island today at Jones Beach announced that the statewide Covid19 positivity rate is below the national level, 1.09% compared to 2.60% respectively. NYC’s rate he said is .69%.ed to the viral pandemic will remain open.
