Manorville, NY (77WABC)-Suffolk County Police say an armed man is dead after a Suffolk County police officer opened fire during a struggle with a suspect in Manorville late Thursday night.
The deadly shooting involves a police officer from the 7th Precinct. He responded at approximately 10:45 pm to a 9-1-1 call reporting a suspicious person lying on the back seat of a vehicle in the vicinity of 67 Bauer Ave. Upon arrival, the officer located the vehicle and the male subject. The officer engaged him, and a struggle ensued. The officer fired his gun, striking the man.

The man, whose identity has not been confirmed, was pronounced dead at the scene, and a knife was recovered from him. The officer was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment.
Suffolk County Homicide Section detectives along with investigators from the New York State Office of the Attorney General Office of Special Investigation are investigating.
