New York, NY (77WABC)-In an unprovoked incident a 48-year-old Asian man walking in midtown Manhattan when he was approached and told by a shirtless suspect to “go back to your country,” before the victim was repeatedly punched in his face by the suspect. The NYPD says the suspect also bit the victim’s two fingers causing the man’s middle fingertip to be severed.
The NYPD’s hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the latest attack on an Asian American in NYC as a hate crime. Since the start of the year, there have been more than four dozen attacks against Asian Americans in the city’s five boroughs fueled by anger from the Covid-19 viral pandemic.
The vicious attack occurred Tuesday morning around 9:50 am as the man was walking near West 43rd Street and 11th Avenue.
EMS responded and transported the victim to Mt. Sinai West where he was treated for lacerations to his forehead, a severed fingertip, and swelling to his eye.
