New York, NY (77WABC)-As most Covid-19 restrictions are lifted as of today in the tri-state area, NYC Health Commissioner Dr. Dave Chokshi is advising New Yorkers to continue mask-wearing indoors. You can hear a portion of his comment during NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio’s briefing on Tuesday below:
To date, over 7.6 million NYC residents have been vaccinated as NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio continues to urge people to get a Covid-19 shot:
Delicious snacks. Museum passes. Playoff tickets!
There are plenty of good reasons to get vaccinated, but none of ‘em are better than protecting yourself and your family from #COVID19.
(Free Krispy Kreme is pretty great, though.)

As of today, CDC guidance on masking takes effect in NY NJ, and CT. In making the announcement Monday in NYC, NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo outlined instances where making is still required or recommended; “By the CDC guidance, immunocompromised people and vaccinated people should continue to wear a mask and social distance, but if you are vaccinated, you are safe. No masks, no social distancing. We’re also going to follow the CDC’s guidelines that you will still need to wear a mask on public transportation, the Subways, the buses, nursing homes, homeless shelters, correctional facilities, schools, and healthcare facilities. Individual private venues still have the ability to add additional guidelines to the state guidelines and the CDC guidelines. But, for our part, we’re adopting the CDC and we’re saying let’s open.”
In NJ Governor Phil Murphy Tuesday issued a directive that masks are no longer needed outdoors leaving indoor mask-wearing in most public situations in place.
Ct. Gov. Ned Lamont says masks are no longer required outdoors unless you are not vaccinated. Similar to NY and NJ masks are still required indoors at places such as health care facilities, public and private transit, correctional facilities, schools, and childcare facilities.
The TSA says if you are traveling, masks are still mandated on commuter airplanes, buses, and rails.
Private businesses and other venues have the right to implement their own mask guidelines. For example arenas such as The Barclay Center, Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, or Madison Square Garden can allow 100% capacity crowds if all attendees are vaccinated.
