New York, NY (77WABC)- New York City’s Covid-19 indicators are at their lowest levels in more than 7 months. NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio made an enthusiastic announcement during his morning briefing from City Hall saying “this is a very big day.” You can listen to his comments below:
The announcement comes on the same day most Covid-19 restrictions, in place since March of 2020 due to the viral pandemic, are eased in the tri-state area.
Under CDC guidelines issued last week, people vaccinated against Covid-19 no longer need to wear a mask while outdoors. People are urged to wear masks indoors especially if they have not been vaccinated or if they are in large groups. In NJ the indoor mask policy remains in effect for now in the public places.
Masks remain the rule of thumb for public places such as mass transit including airplanes, buses, rail, and subways.
Since the start of the viral pandemic, 33,065 NYC residents have died from Covid-19. 3,100 of those Covid-19 deaths are listed as “probable” Covid-19 deaths. Officials report over 943,000 confirmed and probable cases of Covid-19 in NYC since the start of the pandemic. Full data regarding NYC’s Covid-19 numbers can be found here.
