New York, NY (77WABC)-A verbal argument preceded the slashing of a 45-year-old man across his neck on the platform for the “L” train Tuesday afternoon at the Union Square Station in Manhattan.
Police say they believe the suspect used a pocketknife to slash the man who was taken to Bellevue Hospital still conscious and alert following the attack which occurred around 4 pm.
The man was last reported in stable condition. The NYPD is investigating. So far a suspect is at large in connection with the incident.
The name of the slashing victim has not been released.
On Monday NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio announced an additional 250-police officers will be added to the MTA’s subway system to combat a spike in violence. The MTA followed with an announcement that they are adding an additional 100-transit officers into the system.
