A Homeless Woman Arrested In Connection With A Hammer Attack

New York, NY (77WABC)-Police Wednesday arrested a woman suspected of a violent hammer attack on 42nd st.  in Manhattan a week ago Sunday.

Police say  37-year-old  Ebony Jackson, who is homeless, was taken into custody without incident. She is charged with two counts each of assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and menancing.

Police say it was around 8:40 PM  on Sunday, May 2, 2021, when Jackson allegedly approached two women, a 31-year-old and a 29-year-old,  who were walking on the sidewalk near 411 West 42 Street. The suspect first demanded the women remove their masks. Police say Jackson then allegedly proceeded to strike the 31-year-old female victim in the head with a hammer.

It is not known what provoked the brutal attack.

The woman was taken to NYU Medical Center where she was treated for a laceration to her head.
