Deadly Fighting in Gaza Spurs Pro-Israeli and Pro-Palestinian Clashes in Manhattan

Manhattan, NY (77WABC)-The worst fighting in Gaza since the 2014 war,  has left 48 Palestinians, including 14 children and three women dead, according to the Health Ministry. The Associated Press also reports more than 300 people have been wounded, including 86 children and 39 women. Six Israelis, including three women and a child, were killed by rocket fire, and dozens of people were wounded.

The fighting spawned sympathizers on both sides to clash during demonstrations in Manhattan Tuesday:

77WABC Correspondent and News Anchor Bob Brown reports the NYPD has stepped up security following the demonstrations:

It is unclear how many arrests took place during Tuesday’s clashes in Manhattan.

The militant group Hamas confirms that its Gaza City commander was killed in an Israeli airstrike, the highest-ranking militant killed since the 2014 war in the Palestinian territory. Earlier, Israel’s internal security agency said that a series of Israeli airstrikes had killed Bassem Issa and several other senior Hamas militants.

The unrest comes after Hamas called for a full-scale Palestinian uprising against Israel.
