Ronkonkoma, NY (77WABC)-An East Patchogue woman was found standing in the backyard of a home at 2165 Sycamore Ave. in Ronkonkoma after managing to free herself after driving her vehicle into a backyard pool. Suffolk Police say Samantha Perez is charged with driving while ability impaired by alcohol and drugs and criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th degree.
Officers say, Perez, driving a 2007 Mazda 3, failed to negotiate a turn at the intersection of Peconic Street and Sycamore Avenue at approximately 11:25 p.m. She first struck a parked car, then crashed through a fence before winding up in the pool.
Perez was not hurt. Police say she resides at 68 Mercury Ave. in East Patchogue.
The woman was held overnight at the Fifth Precinct. Perez is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip today.
