More Covid-19 Restrictions Eased As Of Today In NY & NJ

New York, NY (77WABC)-Ahead of the May 19th lifting of most Covid-19 restrictions in the tri-state area, some Covid-19 restrictions are eased as of today.

Starting today, New York City’s restaurants, bars, and personal care businesses will increase their capacity to 75% mirroring what is in effect in the rest of NY State.

On Thursday, NY State Health officials reported 23 Covid-19 related deaths. That is the lowest single-day total since November 10th of 2020.

Bar seating is allowed as of today in NJ although the Garden State’s restaurants will remain at 50% capacity for now.

Capacity in NJ is also increasing for outdoor carnivals and fairs. NJ Gov. Phil Murphy (D) says capacity for events such as school proms, weddings, and memorial services ramps up to 50% or a maximum of 250 people as of today.

Today’s changes are ahead of a tri-state agreement between NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo, NJ Gov. Phil Murphy, and CT Gov. Ned Lamont that will lift most restrictions put in place due to the viral pandemic on May 19th. Businesses will only be limited by the space available for patrons or parties of patrons to maintain the required social distance of 6 feet.

Also on May 19th, Yankee Stadium home of the New York Yankees, and Citi Field home of the NY Mets will allow persons vaccinated against Covid-19 to sit side by side in sections for vaccinated persons only. Non-vaccinated persons will be kept 6 feet apart in separate sections. Officials say a mask will be required for fans at either stadium whether your heading to Queens or the Bronx. NY’s Gov. said children under 16, who are not yet eligible for Covid19 vaccinations, will be allowed to sit with others attending a game.

Governor Cuomo said earlier this week that persons entering either stadium will have the option to receive a J & J (Janssen) Covid-19 vaccine prior to a game. If a person chooses to receive a J & J vaccine prior to a game at either stadium they will receive a free ticket to an upcoming ballgame.
