Hello. My name is Andrea Mackiewicz, RN. I am 64 years young and have been on the “front lines” working at Montefiore Hospital Emergency room in the Bronx, NY Westchester Square Unit. I have over 40 years experience in nursing… addressing patient’s wounds, illnesses, anxiety and concerns ; but have to say that dealing with the Covid -19 pandemic has been the toughest of all. It was difficult because unlike other known diagnoses, this virus created fear all around ; no one knew what to expect as far as the spreading concerns, how debilitating it would be and what treatment options would be available? We were at times overwhelmed but somehow managed to keep our cool under extreme pressure. It was grueling but we never lost hope or faith in our continued efforts to give patient care to those that needed help the most. Unfortunately, back in March of 2020, I also came down with the dreaded virus and was bed ridden for a couple of days with flu like symptoms. Thankfully, I recovered quickly and went back to my ER nursing duties in 7 days. After all, folks less fortunate needed my help.. Finally, I must give credit to the ENTIRE hospital staff of Doctors, nurses, technicians and support staff that continue to give the utmost care to pandemic sufferers and all sick patients in need, day in and day out. God bless them all.
