A 62-Year-Old Staten Island Woman Killed Attempting To Cross The Street

Staten Island, NY (77WABC)-Police say a 19-year-old female driver attempting to make a left-hand turn remained at the scene after allegedly striking and killing a 62-year-old female pedestrian. The pedestrian, Hongyou Huang, of 100 Colfax Avenue on Staten Island was in the crosswalk at the intersection of Tysens Lane and Hylan Boulevard when she was fatally struck Sunday night.

Huang suffered head trauma. EMS rushed her to  Staten Island University North Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The accident happened at approximately 9:39 pm Sunday. Police say the female driver, who remained at the scene, was traveling southbound on Hylan Boulevard attempting a left turn onto Tysens Lane within the turning bay when the vehicle struck the pedestrian. Huang was attempting to cross Tysens Lane, from the southeast corner to the northeast corner, within the general crosswalk area.

The driver has not been charged. The investigation is ongoing by officers from the NYPD’s 122nd Precinct.
