Suffolk County, NY (77WABC)-A Rocky Point man will make his first court appearance today after being arrested at the Seventh Precinct in Shirley late Wednesday on charges of embezzling $700,000 from 16 alleged victims during the past year and a half. Investigators say 37-year-old Matthew Gallagher of 6 Rosewood Road used investment schemes in fraudulent startup business ventures and insurance-related frauds between November 2019 and April 2021.
Gallaher was held overnight at the Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment today on the following charges:
- Two counts of Scheming to Defraud 1st Degree
- Six counts of Grand Larceny 2nd Degree
- Eight counts of Grand Larceny 3rd Degree
- Four counts of Identity Theft 1st Degree
- Six counts of Issuing a Bad Check
- One count of Attempted Grand Larceny 3rd Degree
Detectives think that the embezzlement scheme may be more wide-reaching. Investigators say anyone who has additional information or who believes they may have been an alleged victim of Gallager is asked to call Seventh Squad detectives at 631-852-8752.
