New York, NY (77WABC)-Police say 27-year-old Kelvin Valdez of 164 Sherman Ave. in NYC is charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon after two women were fatally stabbed inside of an apartment at 9 Sherman Ave. Tuesday. Police have not said what weapon was involved in the killings of the two women.
Officers from the NYPD’s 34th Precinct were called to apt. #3H where they found a 51-year-old Belky Cruz and a 37-year-old Jaslynn Pena unconscious and unresponsive. Investigators say both women had multiple stab wounds to their neck and chest areas. EMS responded and transported both women to NYC Health & Hospitals/Harlem where they were pronounced dead.
The relationship between the defendant and the two victims is unclear.
A short time after police responded to the crime scene, they apprehended Valdez and took him into custody for questioning.
The investigation is ongoing and the Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death.
