Game Recap: Orioles Deflect Yankees’ Brooms, Salvage Final Game of Series

The Bronx, NY (77WABC) – The Yankees went for a 3-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles this evening, but the pinstriped bats couldn’t match the prowess they displayed in the first two games of the series as the Yanks fell to the O’s in 11 innings.

In his first appearance since 2019, Jameson Taillon turned some heads. Two Oriole home runs in the top of the 4th inning at the hands of Cedric Mullins and Anthony Santander spoiled an otherwise spotless performance. The big right-hander surrendered only those two aforementioned runs over 3 hits and 4 and 2/3 innings pitched. Pair that line with 7 strikeouts and zero walks and the former #2 overall draft pick should feel good about his return to the big league stage.

After a 2-out Gary Sanchez single in the bottom of the 8th inning, Aaron Boone decided to pinch-run Mike Tauchman for the not-so-fleet-of-foot catcher. His decision would prove wise, as Tauchman would come all the way around from first to score on a clutch, game-tying double off the bat of Gio Urshela.

Gridlocked at two, the game would eventually move to extra-innings. Baltimore would push ahead in the top of the 10th inning after a throwing error by shortstop Gleyber Torres allowed a run to score from third base. A game-tying, Kyle Higashioka RBI single would give the Yankees some false hope in the bottom half, as the Orioles would eventually prevail in the 11th and walk away with a 4-3 win in The Bronx.

During a much-needed day off on Thursday, the Yankees will travel to Tampa Bay on their first road trip of the season for a 3-game stint with the Rays. Game 1 of that series is set for Friday afternoon at 3:10 PM EST.

FINAL: Yankees 3, Orioles 4

W: TOR – Valdez (1-0)

L: NYY – Green (0-1)

S: Fry (1)
