New York, NY (77WABC)-NYC is hiring 10,000 people for its newly created City Clean Up Corp. NYC Mayor DeBlasio said the corp has been created in an effort to move NYC forward from the Covid-19 Pandemic. The Mayor announced folks will be out there eradicating graffiti, beautifying parks, helping our wonderful open streets program to be as beautiful as it can be, and will making sure there’s less litter on the streets, “you name it ” De Blasio said.
The Mayor said the first one thousand jobs are being posted as of today, available at nyc.gov/ccc.
“It’s an opportunity for folks to get to work,” Mayor Bill DeBlasio said during his morning briefing. He added, “we have so many things we need to do, and now having a group of New Yorkers who are going to go out there and make the city shine that’s gonna speed the recovery.”

NYC will listen to community leaders and elected officials to determine what areas need the most attention. The Mayor also said the CCC will focus efforts on 33 neighborhoods targeted by the task force on racial inclusion and equity, business districts, commercial streets, and “places where we depend on our economic recovery to happen.”
Federal stimulus monies are paying for the program. The Mayor said NYC’s Clean Up Corp is modeled after former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Civilian Conservation Corps. It was a work relief program that gave millions of young men employment on environmental projects during the Great Depression.
