A Body Bound, Taped and Weighted Down Recovered From The East River Identified

(New York, NY/77WABC)-Police have made an identification of a male whose body was found floating in the East River. The NYPD says the man is identified as 48-year-old Sergio Alvarez of 765 East 165th St. in the Bronx, NY.

The medical examiner has not yet released an official manner and cause of death.

The man’s body was pulled from the East River on Monday, January 11, 2021, at approximately 11:15 in the morning after police responded to a 911 call of an object (possibly a body) floating in the East River in the vicinity of 30 Road and Vernon Boulevard in Flushing, Queens.  Responding NYPD Harbor units retrieved the body and brought it to the Astoria Ferry Terminal, where it was determined, after examination, that the body of an unidentified adult male was inside of a garbage bag, wrapped in a blanket with duct tape securing these items to the body.

EMS responded to the location and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

An investigation remains ongoing.
