BRIDGE
(New York, NY/77WABC)-Oops! A sign on the New Jersey bound lanes of the Staten Island Expressway directs drivers to the “Goethals ” Bridge, instead of the “Goethals” Bridge.
This error brings to mind the misspelling of NYC’s Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. It was incorrectly misspelled for decades, with only one “z,” before the NY State Legislature voted in 2018 to correct the error.
The NY State Department of Transportation says the Goethals Bridge spelling mistake will be fixed in the next few days by the contractor responsible for the original error.
People have been weighing in on the spelling mistake on social media:
Ah yes the Geothals bridge. It takes us to New Jresye https://t.co/mz4uYUSeLq
