NEW YORK (77WABC) – President Joe Biden sat down with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos for a wide-ranging exclusive interview Tuesday in which they discussed topics ranging from Covid-19 vaccines, to immigration to Russian President Vladimir Putin is a killer and “not having a soul.”  The President also said that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo should resign if allegations he committed sexual harassment are confirmed.

Biden said getting vaccinated himself has let him to show Americans doing so is safe and has changed his life “because I can hug my grandkids now.”

“They come over to the house,” the president said. “I can see them. I’m able to be with them.”

Biden also had a strong message to migrants and that was not come to the border.  Stephanopoulos asked Biden: “Was it a mistake not to anticipate this surge?”

“First of all, there was a surge in the last two years,” the president said. “In ’19 and ’20, there was a surge, as well.”

Stephanopoulos added, “This one might be worse,” and Biden acknowledged, “Well, it could be.”

“The idea that Joe Biden said, ‘Come’ — because I heard the other day that they’re coming because they know I’m a nice guy,” Biden said.  “Here’s the deal, they’re not,” the President said.

More than 13,000 unaccompanied migrant children are now in U.S. custody, sources told CBS News.

The U.S. is on pace to stop more migrants crossing the border than in the last 20 years, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said Tuesday, calling the situation “difficult.”

“We are expelling most single adults and families. We are not expelling unaccompanied children,” Mayorkas said in a statement.

Unaccompanied minors are being held an average of 120 hours in Border Patrol facilities, CBS News has learned. It’s far longer than the 72 hours allowed by law. The surge is leading to a shortage of space to house them.
