(New York, NY/77WABC)-A search is on for a man mistakenly released from the Rikers Island Jail while awaiting trial in the murder of a man outside a bodega in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
The NYC Dept. of Corrections says a full investigation is underway into the release of 26-year-old Christopher Buggs after a paperwork error in an unrelated case led to his release.
He’d been sentenced to 30 days of time served for criminal contempt.
Buggs was awaiting trial in the killing of 55-year-old Ernest Brownlee of Brooklyn outside a bodega on Throop Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant in Feb. of 2018. He is charged with 2nd-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Buggs last known address was 522 Quincy St., Apt. 2B in Brooklyn. He is described as a male Black, approximately 5’5″ and 160 lbs.
