Top Officials Call for NY Gov. Cuomo’s Resignation Following Separate Investigations

(New York, NY/77WABC)-Reacting to allegations of sexual harassment against NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo from former aides and an FBI investigation into an alleged cover-up surrounding under-reported nursing home death totals in NY State, NY State Senate Minority Leader Robert Ortt a Republican Monday said, “I don’t know that anyone person can realistically dedicate the proper  time to New Yorkers while also dealing with that.”

The Governor in a statement Sunday apologized for making jokes that he says some people may have interpreted as insensitive or too personal.

During his Monday briefing, Democratic NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio said “that’s not an apology he seemed to be saying oh I was just kidding around, and “if someone purposefully tried to used their power to  force a woman to have sex with them of course ugh that is someone who should no longer be in public service.”

State Attorney General Letitia James has agreed to conduct an independent investigation into the allegations of sexual harassment as requested by the Governor which has subpoena power. The referral also allows James to deputize an outside law firm for “a rigorous and independent investigation.”

Prior to allegations from a third woman surfacing against Cuomo,  NJ Governor Phil Murphy said Monday ” what I’ve read is deeply concerning and deeply troubling,” and  “it appears as so they’re going to have an independent investigation, and that to me seems what they should be doing.”
