A Retired NYPD Officer and a Queens Republican Charged in the US Capitol Riot

(Hudson Valley, NY)-Former NYPD Officer Thomas Webster turned himself in to the FBI’s Hudson Valley Office Tuesday in connection with the deadly siege at the US Capitol in Wash. DC Jan. 6th, 2021. Webster is accused of attacking a US Capitol Police Officer with a pipe.

Webster is seen on video attempting to rip the helmet off the officer while holding a US Marine Corp flag. He told FBI officials he had a gun in his possession and was wearing a bullet-proof vest.

He is heard in the video saying “send more patriots please help!” The video was posted on You Tube:

Webster was assigned to the NYC Mayor’s official residence, Gracie Mansion,  to work primeter security. He retired in 2011. He is a father of three and was honorably discharged from the US Marines.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Gianforti said video footage at the Jan. 6 events showed Webster “clear as day” attacking an officer.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Andrew Krause found that Webster was too dangerous to be released while charges against him are pending and denied bond.

Webster is expected to be sent to a federal jail in Washington, where he’ll be detained while his case is pending.

Queens Republican District Leader 46-year-old Philip Grillo of Glen Oaks was identified at the riot by his embroidered Knights of Columbus jacket. Prosecutors say he entered the Capitol through a broken window, holding a megaphone in his hand.

He allegedly made his way around three Capitol police officers and joined a crowd shouting, “Fight for Trump.” Authorities say the crowd was engaged in a physical confrontation with uniformed officers at the entryway of the Capitol.

Charges against Grillo are trespassing and obstruction of Congress. He was released on $100,000 bail.
