(Boonton, NJ/77WABC)-The bodies of a 35-year-old mother and her approximately 11-year-old son were pulled by rescue divers from the Upper Pond Section of Grace Lord Park Tuesday evening. Authorities say it’s believed the boy may have gone into the pond after his mother. A six-year-old child called the police frantic. Police found footprints in the snow leading them to the Pond.
In Boonton last night, Acting Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said, “it’s obviously a very sad day when children are involved in this type of situation it’s a horrible situation our deepest condolences go out to the family.”
The tragedy remains under active investigation by several agencies including the Morris County Prosecutors Office, the Morris County Sheriffs Department, and the town of Boonton Police Department.
The mother’s vehicle was towed from the scene.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
