Cheers to National Margarita Day

NEW YORK (77 WABC) – Do you prefer your margs with a salt or sugar rim? Well enjoy both because today, February 22, is National Margarita Day.

Legend has it that margaritas were created in Mexico by a bartender in 1938, but there are multiple theories out there.

Nevertheless, I think everyone can agree that margaritas are delicious. So with that said, how are going to celebrate the boozy day?

Here are some options:

If you want to make a classic on the rocks margarita, you only need three basic ingredients: tequila, fresh lime juice, and orange liqueur. I am going to use Don Julio Blanco Tequila and Cointreau for my liqueur, but you can use whatever suits your fancy! Obviously fresh lime juice is the best option, but I am lazy and it’s a Monday, so I plan on making mine with pre-packaged lime juice. Not as great, but it does the job. And if you’re feeling extra fancy, add some salt on the rim of your glass and add a wedge of lime.

Many restaurants are offering deals on margarita’s like Chili’s Bar & Grill, Miller’s Ale House, and On the Border. Also check out local businesses in your area as they may be having deals.

National Margarita Day was founded by Todd McCalla to “celebrate Margaritas, plain and simple.”
