Staten Island, NY (77WABC) – The founder of the Guardian Angels and host of “The Curtis Sliwa Show” here on 77WABC received a key endorsement on Saturday in his quest to become Mayor of New York City.
The Richmond County Republican Committee formally announced the selection of Sliwa during its annual Convention at Max’s Es-Ca in the Dongan Hills section of the Borough.

“The members of the Staten Island Republican Party are concerned with the current trajectory of the City of New York. Today we make the first step to take back our City,” said Anthony Reinhart, the newly elected Chairman of the Staten Island Republican Party.
The endorsement marks the first political party endorsement for Sliwa in what is considered to be one of the most aggressive Republican Committees in a Democratically lead city.
“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the Staten Island Republican Party. This is the body that rescued this city twice, first with Rudy Giuliani and then with Mike Bloomberg. Right now, with our city facing a crime crisis and the precipice of fiscal calamity, I’m looking forward to working with Republican leaders from all over the city to save it,” said Curtis Sliwa on his endorsement.
The Richmond County Republican Committee’s annual conference also chose a slate of candidates for top City Public Office positions, which include: John Tabacco for City Comptroller; NYC Council Minority Leader Steven Matteo for Staten Island Borough President; Brendan Lantry for 2nd Municipal Court District Judge; David Carr for 50th City Council District and Councilman Joseph Borelli for the 51st City Council District.

“With candidates Curtis Sliwa and Staten Islander John Tabacco running citywide in tandem with accomplished local leaders Steve Matteo, Joe Borelli, David Carr, and Brendan Lantry, Staten Island has an incredible opportunity to help elect a distinguished slate of Republicans to serve our borough and City. Working together, we can stem the tide of progressive socialist policies in our branches of government,” said Chairman-Elect Reinhart.
The endorsement comes as Curtis Sliwa enters into a GOP Primary which includes the leader of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers and United Bodegas Association of America leader Fernando Mateo and financier Sara Tirschwell. 77WABC and Red Apple Media owner John Catsimatidis is also considering a GOP run for Mayor as well — but has yet to file papers.
The Republican Primaries for the Mayoral Race is set for this coming June.
