(New York, NY/77WABC)-A 72-year-old woman died as a result of a fire in her third-floor apartment at the public Frederick Douglass Houses on Manhattan’s Upper West Side Wed. evening. Police say the woman, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is pending notification of the next of kin.
On Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at approximately 8 pm, police responded to a 911 call of a residential fire inside of 845 Columbus Avenue (Douglass Houses), within the confines of the 24 Precinct. FDNY personnel also responded to extinguish the fire, located on the third floor of an apartment building.
A 72-year-old female was discovered inside the location, unconscious and unresponsive. EMS responded and pronounced the aided female deceased at the scene. The cause of the fire is to be determined by NYC Fire Marshal.
The investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing.
The identity of the deceased is pending proper family notification.
