(Yaphank, NY/77WABC)-Suffolk County Police say a homeless man, 36-year-old Sherman Roberts Jr., is charged with kidnapping his girlfriend’s 2-year-old, Dio Palermo, from his mother’s Commack Residence on Saturday afternoon. Roberts Jr. and the toddler were safely located Sunday.
Roberts was held overnight at the 4th Precinct. He is scheduled for arraignment today at 1st District Court in Central Islip, NY.
Suffolk County Police say Roberts Jr. is charged with Kidnapping 2nd Degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree.
Roberts allegedly fled Zakiya Mitchell’s450 Moreland Rd. residence driving his girlfriend’s vehicle, a 2008 black Mazda Tribute with the child Sat. Feb. 13th.
The child was not hurt.
