NEW YORK (77 WABC) — The Yankees will take on the defending champion Washington Nationals to open the truncated Major League Baseball season and the Mets will host the Atlanta Braves to start their year.

The two New York baseball clubs, along with the rest of the MLB teams, found out their 60-game schedules Monday afternoon, with opening day slated to take place on July 23. The Yankees 7:10 p.m. game in Washington will be one of two “showcase games” being played to kick off the 2020 season.

The Mets host the Atlanta Braves the following day on July 24 at Citi Field at 4:10 p.m.

As part of the shortened season, each team will play 10 games against each of the other teams in its division and they will play 20 games against interleague opponents in the same geographical region. The Mets and Yankees will face one another six times this year.

The first Subway Series matchup will take place on Aug 21 at Citi Field. The first game between the New York City rivals at Yankee Stadium takes place a week later on Aug 28.
