NEW YORK (77 WABC) — First time unemployment topped 1.48 million last week as the coronavirus pandemic has led to 12 straight weeks with at least 1 million new claims.
Experts were anticipating 1.35 million new claims, CNBC.com said.
But, news isn’t all bad from the weekly jobs figures. The number of people getting continuing benefits dropped by 767,000 to 19.52 million.
Among those filing, 728,000 were first timers under the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program.
Wall Street, which had major losses Wednesday, opened today down more than 100 points.
