NYCFC, Red Bulls learn their group draw for MLS is Back Tournament

NEW YORK (77 WABC) — New York City Football Club and the New York Red Bulls learned who they will play in the group stage of the MLS is Back Tournament being held in Orlando.

NYCFC enters the tournament in Group A, along with Orlando City SC, Inter Miami, Philadelphia Union, Chicago Fire and Nashville SC. The Red Bulls drew Group E, with Atlanta United FC, FC Cincinnati and Columbus Crew.

Group A is the only group with six teams and NYCFC will only face Orlando, Philadelphia and Chicago in the group stage.

The MLS is Back Tournament will see 54 matches played over a 26 day period beginning on July 8 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at the Walt Disney World Resort. It is the same site the NBA will use to restart its season at the end of July.

Teams will begin to arrive in Orlando on June 24 and the tournament will run until Aug. 11. The winner of the tournament will receive a bid to play in the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League.

Group stage games will count towards the MLS regular season, which will continue at a later date this year.
