LONDON (AP) — British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says he won’t fire his chief aide for allegedly violating the national coronavirus lockdown rules that he helped to create. Johnson is defying a growing clamor for the dismissal of adviser Dominic Cummings. Cummings traveled 250 miles (400 kilometers) to his parents’ home with his wife and son as he was coming down with COVID-19 at the end of March. Britain’s lockdown, which began March 23, stipulated that people should remain at their primary residence and not visit relatives. One Conservative lawmaker accused Cummings of “believing the rules don’t apply to him.” But the government has defended Cummings and says he won’t resign.
