NEW YORK (77 WABC) — There is a new viral video showing officers in Brooklyn handcuffing a woman at a subway station.
Cops say she refused to put on a mask properly. The woman was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, NY1 reported.
“Whatever else was going on that video, whatever else was happening in that moment, we should never have a situation where a mom with her child ends up under arrest for that kind of offense,” de Blasio said at his daily briefing Thursday.
“Police officers are human,” Commissioner Dermot Shea told NY1. “But I will push back strongly that this is business as usual for the NYPD.”
Shea added, the notion that the cops were asking racist, “couldn’t be anything further from the truth.”
de Blasio encouraged everyone to work together, especially amid the pandemic while everyone is stressed out.
“But what we saw there did not reflect our values, it did not reflect our goals of deescalation and we have to do better,” the mayor said.
